LOA Architecture (Luis O. Acosta Architects at the time) consulted with Boulder Associates as the design architects for this two 42-bed and two 48-bed units facility. A few of the main design concepts were:
- To have large oversized bay windows in each room to provide the veterans the maximum amount of daylight.
- Create an operationally efficient model nursing home of the future.
- Provide a floor plan for flexible “family” clusters to allow for effective use of Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) staff-to-resident ratios on all shifts.
- Decentralized serving kitchens and dining rooms reduce the travel distance and staff time spent transporting residents.
The flexible design allows clusters and units to change the services they provide as resident needs change.
