The original library consisted of a 150,000 square foot, four story building. The addition added 110,000 square feet to the existing structure. The project enabled Morgan Library to house 80% of all books, journals, and document collections as projected for the year 2005 and all non-print format collections to that year. The shelving plan for the facility included a majority of the collections on standard library shelving to enable direct patron browsing of high-use collections and bound journal volumes which do not require as much browsing.

The focus of LOA Architecture’s design allowed the existing facility and the addition to function and read as a coherent whole, with effective and flexible use of library space. LOA also added light and color to the facility in the new atrium and student reading areas through the wall color, tile and light fixtures.
